*****UPDATE FEBRUARY 3RD*****
The new U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods have been temporarily paused until March 1st.
While this gives us all a little breathing room, we know the uncertainty around these tariffs has been confusing and frustrating, and we truly appreciate your patience and support.
During the past few days, we received many emails and messages with questions about how these tariffs would be collected. To clarify:
👉 Thread & Maple will never collect tariffs from U.S. customers directly. These are customs duties imposed by the U.S. government when goods from Canada cross the border—similar to how VAT is applied in Europe.
👉 If the tariffs are reinstated, they would be charged by U.S. Customs at the time of entry, not at checkout on our website. This means the tax would be due upon arrival in the U.S., not as part of your purchase with us.
👉 While we can’t control these tariffs, we are doing our best to ease the impact by offering a Tariff Offset Discount on U.S. orders, helping to lower the overall cost for you.
For now, while the pause is in effect, we encourage you to take advantage of this tariff-free window to shop with us without the added cost!
THANK YOU for standing by us during this uncertain time. Your support means everything—to us, to our artisans in Ukraine, and to the future of our small business.
You can still take advantage of the TARIFFHELP discount code until end of day February 5th!
We anxiously await more news and hope this will get resolved in some way that doesn't hurt small businesses and consumers on both sides of the border.

At Thread & Maple, we’ve always been about more than just crafting beautiful organizers and accessories for makers. We’re a small, passionate team that cares deeply about our craft, our community, and the people behind every stitch and seam. But right now, we’re facing a challenge that threatens the future of small Canadian businesses like ours—and we need your support.
The 25% Tariff: A Devastating Blow to Small Businesses
On February 1, 2025, President Trump issued an executive order directing the United States to impose new tariffs on imports from Canada to take effect on February 4, 2025. On February 3rd, the president PAUSED the tariff release until March 1st, 2025.
Starting March 1st, 2025, a 25% tariff will be added to all goods imported from Canada into the U.S. This applies to any shipments arriving in the U.S. on or after that date.
Additionally, a rule that previously allowed small shipments under $800 (like most e-commerce orders) to enter duty-free has been suspended. This means that even smaller online purchases from Canada—like those from our shop—will now be subject to the 25% tariff.
The tariffs will remain in effect indefinitely, until the president decides to remove them.
This drastically increases costs for American customers shopping from Canadian brands. For a $100 item, this means an additional $25 in tariffs, making the final cost $125—a steep increase that we know is hard to absorb.
For large corporations, these costs may be frustrating but manageable. For small, independent businesses like ours, however, they can be devastating. We don’t have the capital or mass production scale to simply absorb this increase, and we fear the impact this will have—not just on us, but on our incredible artisans who have supported us every step of the way.
Helping You Save: Our Tariff Offset Discount
We’re incredibly grateful for our U.S. customers, who make up a huge part of our community and allow us to keep doing what we love. To help ease the burden, we will be offering a 10% Tariff Offset Discount on all U.S. orders from March 1st onward should the US go forward with this tariff.
🔹 How It Works:
When you apply the code TARIFFHELP at checkout, you’ll receive 10% off your order.
This helps offset the tariff, reducing your final cost significantly.
Example: A $100 item would normally cost $125 after tariffs. With the discount, your cost drops to $112.50—a meaningful difference.
This discount will be in effect as of midnight March 1st, 2025 EST. Orders that haven't shipped by February 27th are eligible for the discount. Our team will e-mail you directly if you have a pending order with us.
Be sure to set your shipping country to United States and enter TARIFFHELP into the discount code field (on or after March 1st, 2025 provided that the tariff is in effect at that time).
We would like to highlight that when shopping from a Canadian website, you don’t have to pay U.S. sales tax, which helps counterbalance the added tariff.
Our Commitment to Keeping Shipping Affordable
We know that shipping costs can add up quickly, and we’re committed to keeping them as low as possible for our U.S. customers. While the actual cost to ship our products to the U.S. averages $20 per parcel (2kg or less), we only charge a flat $10 shipping fee—covering half of the cost ourselves.
We’re also continuing to offer free shipping on all U.S. orders over $250.
